Children should have their first orthodontic assessment as early as age 7

The Canadian Association of Orthodontists recommends that children have their first assessment as early as six to eight years of age. Interceptive treatment, well synchronized with the child's growth, can proactively address current problems and prevent more serious ones in the future.

Children can develop orthodontic problems as a result of habits such as thumb sucking, early or late loss of baby teeth, or genetic factors. These problems include overlapping, unevenly spaced or excessively forward-tilted teeth, jaw growth problems and dental malocclusions. Fortunately, we can resolve these problems at an early age following a simple evaluation.

How does it work...

Orthodontic Braces

Once bonded to your teeth, the braces exert continuous pressure on your teeth, helping them to move into the desired position. At some appointments, your orthodontist will adjust the wires in your mouth. Some patients may also need to wear elastics or other appliances.

It is normal for teeth to be slightly mobile during treatment. This is normal and temporary; once the teeth have stabilized in their new position, they will no longer be mobile.

Invisalign® for teens

Few teenagers are enthusiastic about wearing braces, and we understand. To address our young people's concerns, one alternative we offer is Invisalign® clear aligners. They are custom-made and almost invisible. Contact us to find out if this option is right for your child.
